Kestrel Journal began after its founders spent too many evenings reading men's health articles that either exaggerated a claim or offered no real source at all. Most of what existed online seemed built to chase attention rather than to actually help someone make a sensible decision about their own health.
So we set out to build something slower and more careful: a small team of named writers and editors, working from public health guidance rather than borrowed headlines, with a second editor reading every piece before it goes anywhere near a reader.
What keeps us going is a fairly simple ethic: no brand pays for a mention here, every writer signs their name to their work, and if we get something wrong, we say so openly rather than quietly editing it away.
Our Editorial Principles
Plain-Language Explanations
We translate public health guidance into sentences a reader can actually use, without the jargon that usually gets in the way.
No Sponsored Placements
We do not accept payment to feature a brand, a claim or a product recommendation anywhere on the site.
Second-Editor Review
A separate editor reads every article before it goes live, checking tone and sourcing rather than just spelling.
Reader Questions Answered
Topics submitted through our contact form are reviewed monthly, and several have turned into full articles.
Transparent Corrections
When we get something wrong, we say so in the article itself, with a visible note and a date.
Consistent Publishing Rhythm
A fixed weekly schedule means we do not need to pad the site with rushed, low-value posts to look active.
Plain Language
We write the way we would explain something to a friend, not the way a leaflet reads. Jargon gets cut unless there is genuinely no simpler way to say it.
Named Accountability
Writers and editors put their name to every piece, with no anonymous entries anywhere on the site. Readers can always see exactly who wrote what.
Editorial Independence
No brand pays for placement or favourable coverage on this journal, so what we recommend is genuinely our own view. That independence is worth more to us than any single sponsorship.
How We Keep Standards Up
Every draft is checked against public health guidance and read by a second editor before it goes live. When a reader flags something unclear or wrong, we correct it and note the change openly at the bottom of the piece.
